The short version

The Jura E8 is the premium end of super-automatic: a Swiss bean-to-cup machine with a professional conical grinder, a Pulse Extraction Process that pulses water through the puck for short drinks, an automatic fine-foam milk system and a 2.8-inch colour touchscreen driving 17 one-touch specialities. It is the aspirational alternative to the De'Longhi and Philips super-automatics — better built, better on cup quality, and roughly three times the price.

Ideal for

A household that wants the best bean-to-cup experience, values build and cup quality over price, and is likely to keep the machine for many years.

Look elsewhere if

Anyone weighing value against a mid-range super-automatic, or who wants a brew group they can pull out and rinse themselves.

The full review

Every super-automatic makes the same core trade — you give up control of dose, grind and pressure for a drink at one button press — and the Jura makes that trade at the top of the market. Its Pulse Extraction Process genuinely helps the espresso and cortado end of the menu, pulsing water through the puck instead of pushing it in one pass, and the grinder is a clear step above what the mid-price machines use. The milk system produces dense, fine foam automatically, drawn from your own jug through a hose.

The 4.5-star average is the highest of any machine added here, though on only 61 ratings, and repeat Jura owners make up a lot of the reviews — this is a brand people buy again. Two things temper it: the brew group is sealed rather than user-removable, so you rely on the automatic cleaning cycles and eventually on a service, and the US warranty is a year where the De'Longhi and Philips give two.

It earns its place as the ceiling of the super-automatic category. Whether it is worth three Magnifica Evos is a question only the buyer can answer, but the cup and the build are a real step up.

The honest bit

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Highest rating of any machine added here (4.5 stars), and a brand owners repurchase
  • Pulse Extraction Process measurably helps short drinks like espresso and cortado
  • Professional-grade grinder, a clear step above mid-price super-automatics
  • 17 one-touch specialities on a clean colour touchscreen
  • Automatic fine-foam milk and low day-to-day maintenance

What to consider

  • About three times the price of a very good mid-range super-automatic
  • Brew group is sealed — not user-removable for rinsing like the De'Longhi or Philips
  • 1-year US warranty, half of what De'Longhi and Philips offer
  • No milk carafe in the box — milk is hosed from your own container
  • Still a super-automatic: no control over dose, grind or extraction pressure

What owners report

Summarised from the 61 Amazon ratings

Reviews are strongly positive and heavily populated by repeat Jura owners, praising cup quality, the touchscreen and how easy cleaning is. Criticism is mostly about price and value relative to cheaper super-automatics, with an occasional note that setup and the manual are less clear than expected. The review count is low, so the long-term picture is thinner than for the mid-price machines.

Jura's the best

Great coffee machine. Our 3rd Jura. Love it — just wish the water reservoir was a little bigger.

Why did we wait so long

Easy to operate, cleaning is a breeze, and the coffee and espresso quality is excellent.

Just okay for the money

It makes fine coffee but I feel it is overrated and overpriced for what you get.
